Hello, Amazing Creatives! Everyone is gearing up for the holiday season! I hope your planning is going well :) I want to share with you a short story of facing fear and wrangling gremlins*, those inner negative voices that try to keep you from becoming your best self. I have long admired Artist, Author, Instructor Donna Downey. I am inspired by her YouTube show, Inspiration Wednesday. Her willingness to experiment, learn, grow, and constantly push the envelope of what she can do motivates me to push my own limits -- to experiment and to explore. She is a mentor and role-model to many people. What does this have to do with that scary email? Keep reading to find out!  Photo courtesy of Melissa Dinwiddie of Melissa Dinwiddie.com If you have been following my blog, you will know that the past few weeks I have been part of a community called the Creative Sandbox, led by Melissa Dinwiddie. This wonderful group is about growing your courage and sharing your work, in whatever medium you prefer. With much encouragement from my friends in the sandbox, I started making and sharing YouTube videos. Video is the "medium" I chose to share my journey. That is, in itself, a risky proposition. It requires showing up every day, creating a project related to the prompt, and being willing to share the recording...however imperfect it may be! And, believe me, there are definitely imperfect ones! Ok, so back to that SCARY email! Today, i sent that SCARY email to Donna Downey! I applied to be part of her 2016 Artist Gang -- a group of artists who create videos/tutorials for her channel. Imagine, sending your hero a request to work with her! That is just what I did! I composed the email, prepped photos, shared my blog, my art, and my NEW YouTube channel with my hero! All I had to do now was hit SEND. My hand hovered over the button -- should I really do this? What if I'm not selected? Will Donna even like my work? I am just a beginner ---maybe I should wait? My mind was racing... My hand was hovering... I hear the Gremlins in my head, those negative thoughts... SHHH...I won't die if I step outside my comfort zone. CLICK -- SEND! Now, I wait. I have no idea if Donna will accept me or not, but I can be proud that I faced those gremlins of self-doubt and insecurity, and moved forward. I encourage you to do the same! Don't let that negative voice be the boss of you!  Get out there, create, share your work! There is no one else on the planet, not now, nor at any time in the past or future, who can do what you do how you do it! We need you!  P. S.
