Being an artist, for me, is not something that I do. It is something I am. I have had jobs that I enjoy, but I could never say that job was me....it was just something that I did to earn money. But art is different. Making art is about so much more than the paint and canvas. Its about letting go. So much of my culture is about logic, practicality, and control. Art is about reaching past logic, letting go of control, and following the path that leads deep into your soul, you intuition, your spirit. It's about letting your best self come forward. In that process of abandoning, that moment of becoming vulnerable, there is only the path before me. Does it make sense? Is it rational? Is it safe? Not in the least, but I must follow it. I am an Artist. As an artist, my desire for my art is to bring a smile to your face. That may seem trivial, but I believe it is transformational. If for only one brief moment of your day, you paused to smile at the beautiful art that I created, then the world is a better place.
And maybe, just maybe, you will have the opportunity to pass that smile on to someone else. We are more together. Just thought I would share...Alyson Stanfield of Art Biz Blog is giving away a free book here! If you want to help people and improve your art business, you may want to check it out :) Jay Baer, author of Youtility: Why Smart Marketing Is About Help, Not Hype, says “If you sell something, you make a customer today. If you help someone, you may create a customer for life.” So, I just wanted to catch up with everyone :) I thought you might like to know how the Katy Home & Garden Show went, and what is coming up. Katy Home & Garden ShowI have to confess...I have struggled a bit with calling the show a success. I did not sell any art, so in that sense, I was somewhat disappointed. That being said, I am happy that I did it. The great thing was meeting so many interesting people. I chatted with people about art, life, ups and downs of remodeling, etc. I met several artists, made some new connections, and learned a lot. After taking some time to process, I can honestly say that I do consider it a success. My biggest take-away from the show (so far) is that a lot of people want murals! The thing is, I have painted walls many times, but had not really considered doing murals, translate--art on walls. I am happy to announce, that you will soon see murals added to my business..so keep your eyes peeled! :) Classes at Hobby Lobby!I am now offering workshops at Hobby Lobby, located on Fry Road @ Grand Parkway in Katy, Texas. Think Painting with a Twist with a twist. I will guide you through creating an original abstract painting that you will be proud of! Its still no pressure and lots of fun, you will learn specific techniques for completing the painting that is offered that day. You do not need any painting experience to take this workshop. For details, click here. A calendar with upcoming projects will soon be appearing on ColorMeCreativeArt.com So exciting!! :) Coming up on the blog...I will be doing a short series called, "A Simple Guide to Art". I will be sharing how to choose art, how to light art, where to buy art locally, etc. If you have any questions, just leave a comment on my site or FB page. I will do my best to answer! Looking forward to your comments and feedback! Also, if you know someone who loves art, please share this!
